Winter at Halfway Lake Resort

Maybe you want to get away for the winter but snowmobiling is not your thing and that is okay because there is plenty more to do in the local area! Now if you do want to snowmobile, this is the place to be because our TASA trail system was rated the 5th best in snowmobiling destinations in America out of 10 and #1 in Lake Superior Magazine! We have plenty of trailer parking and snowmobile rentals nearby if you want to get out and ride but like we said, there is plenty more to do! We do recommend liking winter before heading this way because we get winter in a big way here with 103 inches being the average in town, 134 inches at the resort!

Have you seen the dog sleds maybe in a movie or on a website and thought that would be really cool to do? The number of trails and forests here in the eastern upper peninsula make it a great destination for a dog sled adventure! Experience the rush of a pack of huskies pulling you along the winter landscape with Nature’s Kennel – Michigan’s Premier Dog Sledding Destination. They offer day trips and overnight packages as well as special events. Contact them at www.natureskennel.com or 906-748-0513 to schedule your reservation!

If you want to get inside and warm up, check out the Top of the Lake Snowmobile Museum in Naubinway. They offer 185+ vintage, antique and classic displays that you don’t see any where else! They also have a store with many unique snowmobiling themed gifts and souvenirs so be sure to pick up something for those you left had home when you came to visit! They currently offer 4 special events each year that are great for all ages! Contact them at www.snowmobilemuseum.com or 906-477-6298 and be sure to tell them we sent you!  You might also want to check out the 906 Hunting store and the Berry Patch restaurant while in Naubinway!

The Tahquamenon Falls area offers many groomed trails for cross country skiing or snowshoeing with trails ranging from novice to experienced. The Falls are amazing with their mounded ice formations in the winter when frozen (by mid-winter) and the trail to them is very easy so young children can walk it. While there give yourself some time because they are busy but stop in for lunch or dinner at the Falls Brewery while there to warm up! You can find more information for cross country skiing or snowshoeing at www.explorem123.com/things-to-do/xc-ski-and-snowshoe/.

If you have a younger family or adventurous family and just want some winter fun, be sure to check out the Big Valley Ski and Tube as well as The Barn here in Newberry. You can tube and ice skate all in one day for very affordable prices! In between all the fun, check out Timber Charlies, Zellars, Seders Pizza or Pickleman’s for some delicious food in town or out by us check out the Wolf Inn or Pine Stump! No matter where you eat, you are guaranteed great food and big portions! Before turning in for the night check out the movie theater in town!
